Generator power solutions have become a key tool for many trades’ people, who operate on sites not connected to mains power or locations lacking 3 phase facilities. In any case, it is important to select the suited generator for user specific application and equipment. Failure to do so can result in the damage of equipment, not having sufficient power to run all equipment and even injury to operators.

The Productive Portable Power concept was developed by Wasp Diesel to ensure that each customer is delivered the effective generator solution. Several focal attributes govern the effective selection of any diesel or petrol generator, which include;

Know what user is proposing to power
Do the equipment and tools require single phase, three phase, or a combination of the two.
If the user is planning on running multiple pieces of equipment and tools, find out from the manufacturer how many Kilowatts (kW) is required to power them.
Some equipment comprises of electric motors, such as those used for Bore-pumps and Drills. Be sure to find out what type of start system these motors have, and if possible find out from the manufacturer the current required to start them.

Running conditions and environment
It is important to consider how often the user will be running the generator. Applications requiring a generator under 12kVA have the option of purchasing petrol driven or diesel driven generators.
A petrol powered engine provides a cheaper upfront cost, however it does not provide the superior fuel economy of a diesel engine. When operated frequently and for long periods, the diesel powered generator provides a much more effective and economically sound choice over that powered by petrol.
Considerations must be given to noise and whether the generator must be silenced in a particular application.
Weather conditions will determine whether the generator must be enclosed in a weather proof canopy to prevent damage and corrosion.

Technical requirements
Does the generator require a specific type of starting system?
Are there any special operating requirements the generator must adhere to (i.e. specific electrical requirements of a worksite such as earth leakage protection or signage).

The points outlined above will assist in providing the user with a better understanding of how Wasp Diesel recommends the suitable generator for an application.
