RapidPro manufactures a variety of plastic components, using the thermoforming process primarily to produce disposable tableware and disposable packaging.
Thermoplastic sheet or film is used in this process, by which is converted into a formed, finished part. The sheet or film is heated in an oven to its forming temperature, then stretched into or onto a mould and cooled.
Most commonly, cast or machined aluminium is used as a mould material, although epoxy, wood and structural foam are sometimes used for prototypes, samples, and low volume production runs.
As distinct from other forms of plastics processing, thermoforming is primarily used in the manufacture of products such as:
- disposable cups
- clamshells; and
- other products.
