New boots for work and play

RM Williams has introduced two new work boots - the Mallee boot and the Kelly Safety boot, designed as much for style as for comfort and durability.

Promoted as ‘tougher than a mallee bull’ the Mallee boot looks equally good at work and at play. Available in brown and black, the oiled kip leather uppers see to that.

Sometimes known as "red" kip, this leather is made from the heavy chrome tanned hide of a large beast. During the tanning process, the leather is impregnated with special oils to make it water-resistant.

The Mallee heavy duty, elastic-sided work boot is shaped from one piece of leather with a single seam at the back that makes for a good fit.

The single piece of leather construction also gives the boot exceptional colour, grain and texture. A dual density nitrile rubber/PU air-cushioned comfort sole, an EVA comfort insole and an extra wide toe shape, adds up to a strong, lightweight boot.

The Kelly Safety boot - named after the legendary Ned Kelly - combines looks with attitude and toughness to get any job done.

A heavy duty work boot conforming to the hard-wearing Type 1 AS/NZ 2210.2 standard compliance, the Kelly Safety boot's carbon fibre/Kevlar composite toe cap (nonsteel) reduces weight but not ruggedness and quality.

The development of the Kelly Safety boot's composite toe cap is a world first patented design.

Not only does the toe cap weigh less than a steel toe cap - 45g compared to 120g - it also "deforms" the toe less on impact.

Steel cap boots can only be made in a limited range of styles because a boot must "fit" the cap's rigid structure - not the other way round.

Composite toe caps can be used in any style of boot because they are easily shaped during the manufacturing process.

The Kelly Safety boot shares many of the features of the Mallee - oiled kip, one piece leather uppers, dual density nitrile rubber/PU air-cushioned soles, EVA comfort insoles and extra wide shape.

But it also has non-sparking, non-static, low temperature conductivity and elastic memory after impact ‘extras’.

The Mallee boot will be available from July 2002 in brown only - RRP $199.95. The Kelly Safety boot will be released in August 2002 and will be available in brown and black - RRP $249.95.
