Conec Corporation manufactures a broad range of D subminiature connectors and adapters, including products with inbuilt filtering for EMI/RFI.
D subminiature connectors, commonly used for interface connection, cannot provide protection from EMI or RF interference, even when enclosed in screened hoods. This is because the plastic insulator containing the contacts has no screening effect and indeed the pins themselves act like miniature antennas, picking up and/or radiating interference signals. Even printed circuit mounted filters often do not overcome this problem.
Conec has developed a system where a low pass filter element using thickfilm technology is incorporated into the D subminiature connector or adapter. If requested each contact can be individually filtered. The filtered connectors/adapters are available in 9 to 78 position shell sizes with a choice of capacitance ranging from 150 to 1560 pF
The low pass filters provide an attenuation of up to 50dB and are cost effective compared with using discrete components on the printed circuit board.
