Managing high temperatures with Pyrosales thermocouples

Platinum-based thermocouples from Pyrosales are designed to handle extreme temperatures in high temperature processes.

Most of the products used in everyday life have gone through some form of high temperature process during manufacturing, ranging from glass bottles and aluminium cans to fibreglass insulation bats or the steel used to construct buildings.

High temperature processes require equipment designed to handle extreme temperatures such as the platinum-based thermocouples that dominate high temperature processes. Type R, S and B as well as the Nicrobell sheathed type N mineral insulated thermocouples are widely used for temperatures of 1000°C to 1250°C.

However, only platinum-based thermocouples can handle operating temperatures over 1250°C. These thermocouples come in a sheath to protect against damage and ensure accurate readings. The sheath can be made from Hexaloy SA, a silicon carbide material with no free silica, or metal ceramic, a composite material made from chromium and aluminium oxide.
