Haymes Paint has also innovated its IT systems, having introduced Pronto Software to manage its manufacturing, distribution and retail operations in 1999. As a fully integrated system, PRONTO-Xi has realised operational efficiencies such that Haymes Paint has doubled turnover without increasing the number of staff.
According to Travan Greenbank, Haymes Paint IT Manager, “PRONTO-Xi gives us one database and a link between our records and for reporting purposes that is an absolute must and has resulted in huge improvements to the business”.
PRONTO-Xi provides a good advantage in servicing the specific requirements of trade sales from the retail outlets.
Retail stockists supply paint to trade customers; however, this is done on behalf of the manufacturer and hence cannot be recorded as a sale for the stockist.
Travan says, “The ability to handle the different types of sale was very important to us.” Initially trade accounts were handled manually. The trade account holder bought paints at a store, the store informed head office and a credit was manually put onto the account. The process was both time consuming and costly.
Pronto Software has developed a customised solution for Haymes Paint to automate the process. “We were spending ten minutes per transaction doing it manually. Now staff simply input the relevant trade account code and all other functions are automatically updated by PRONTO-Xi. It takes less than a minute to complete the transaction”, says Travan.
Improving customer service
Haymes Paint has recently implemented Pronto Software’s e-Business solution and expects to substantially increase the service offered to customers.
“Our customers are able to get their own accounts balances, review old invoices and process sales via the web whenever they want to. It sounds so simple, but this is a major step for us. Our vision is that within a few years web-based services will dramatically change how we do business and further improve our customer service levels,” says Travan.

“The efficiency with which the order is processed, using advanced warehouse to optimise our supply chain and other inbuilt features helps us ensure that the customer is always happy. We have been able to win customers from some of the larger players in the industry and it is a competitive advantage for us” says Travan.
