PRODUCT Lifecycle Management has released Teamcenter Engineering, a three-dimensional visualisation system for geographically dispersed designers and engineers.
It allows users to connect through a secure web link and add technical input to the design of a product. Prototype development and testing can be done on screen. It is based on UGS PLM software and combines product data management with digital mock-up solutions.
Engineering teams can integrate and access design data created under dissimilar CAD systems including Unigraphics, Solid Edge, CATIA, Pro/Engineer and AutoCAD. The multi-CAD data can be combined with other types of product and process data such as engineering specifications, documents and other requirements. This information can be applied to a common product structure that applies to the earliest stages of the product lifecycle.
The system helps optimise the early processes in a product's lifecycle, which normally accounts for about 80% of the product cost. It removes common communication gaps between OEMs, their suppliers and allied partners. Repeated digital evaluation increases product innovation and helps catch costly errors early in the cycle. The system allows much faster and cheaper changes than those with drawings.
