The new features in the NX advanced CAD/CAM/CAE software from Product Lifecycle Management (Australasia) , are making NX 5 a very attractive proposition for customers in the shipbuilding industry.
High-profile luxury yacht-building companies such as Riviera, Alloy Yachts and Sensation Yachts are increasingly focused on delivering exciting new models and fresh innovation in terms of the design, performance, interior fitout and quality of its boats. To achieve this, these companies invests millions of dollars each year in technologies, the skills of its staff, and its production capabilities.
When Riviera set out to select its next generation digital Product Development platform it was looking for more than just a 3D CAD system to replace its outdated systems. At the time, the company was using AutoCAD for 2D drawings and Rhino for some basic 3D work and renderings. With over 300 yachts being produced each year the company was under pressure to get yachts built quicker and to design more types of. As such, it was looking for a system that would not only help it increase the number of yachts designed each year, but also to improve the information it was sending to its Manufacturing plant in order to improve quality and speed production. The company installed the NX and NX Manager systems, making excellent progress on the design of the next generation of Riviera yachts using the NX 5 integrated CAD/CAM/ CAE/PDM systems.
Riveria reports that it is already seeing benefits in terms of better and more accurate design, team collaboration and greater speed in the design process.
Other large companies, such as Alloy Yachts and Sensation Yachts, have also recently selected NX 5 as their CAD/CAM/CAE systems of choice, along with suppliers to the industry such as MouldCAM.
