The uptake of the Teamcenter suite of product lifecycle management software by the Australian Defence Department has increased yet again.

The Commonwealth of Australia recently entered into an agreement with Product Lifecycle Management Australasia (plm) for the provision of additional Teamcenter licenses, which brings the total number of Teamcenter users to 2,400.

Teamcenter was initially selected by Maritime Systems Division for the configuration management and technical data Management of the surface fleet.

The program has been a great success, and as a result Teamcenter has grown into other areas of Defence.

Since Maritime Systems Division commenced the Teamcenter roll out, there have been significant new releases of the Teamcenter Software, including functionality relating to direct feedback from Maritime System Division experiences in using Teamcenter.

The Teamcenter Defence software bundle now provides an even closer out of the box fit to not only the Maritime Systems requirements, but all other areas of Defence.

According to Product Lifecycle and Common Maintenance Management Systems, Directorate of Materiel Acquisition Projects, the new Teamcenter baseline offers Defence a single solution that meets a broad set of configuration management and technical data management requirements.

Included in the new software baseline is the as-built / as-maintained product definition capability, along with maintenance repair and overhaul planning, records management, and options and variants. The baseline gives Defence the opportunity to rationalise systems with a solution that has a proven track record in Australia and overseas.

The commitment to Teamcenter will bring further benefits to Defence through the standardisation of systems used in the provision of configuration management, he added.

According to Materiel Acquisition Projects, Materiel Information Systems Branch, the investment in Teamcenter provides the organisation with exceptional value for money in a world class solution that has a successful track record in the Australian Defence Community.

Additionally, Materiel Acquisition Projects is looking forward to working with plm in setting up the infrastructure to support the ongoing deployment of the solution.
