PLM Australasia has released its Teamcenter Automotive Supplier product life cycle management software for increased efficiency and product development right across the entire supply chain.
With the automotive industry pushed for tighter profit margins and turnaround by the global market, a manufacturer's entire supply chain can now work together in real time to coordinate fast reaction to market changes.
PLM director Dennis Colusso says Teamcenter Automotive Supplier - based on UGS PLM Software - has already been successfully implemented by companies in the USA and Europe.
"This product is simple to implement and it is clear what this automotive-specific Teamcenter solution has been able to do," Mr Colusso said.
"Looking at the example of overseas users, the automotive manufacturers are working in synchronicity with all companies in their supply chain who are all able to perpetually refine products by developing highly detailed 3D engineering models on computer screen, and modifying at will as the market call for changes.
"Basically, if one of the manufacturers was re-designing a vehicle for markets with extremely cold environments, it could provide its entire supply chain with all necessary modification data which is entered into the Teamcenter Automotive system for suppliers to analyse and redesign each new component, thus ensuring the new design is engineered to perform to the new specifications.
"This is a product life cycle management solution that helps reduce product development costs and reduces time to market by implementing a pre-packaged set of capabilities specifically tailored for automotive suppliers."
On a global enterprise basis, the product is able to quickly and inexpensively make information readily accessible to everyone in the design and manufacturing process.
Teamcenter Automotive Supplier provides fast, cost controlled, deployable capabilities tailored to automotive supplier data, processes, and standards that are all built on scalable, extensible, proven PLM technologies.
As the supply chain in virtually every case would be a global one, this enables automotive suppliers to comply with the complex requirements surrounding today's production and manufacturing standards and changing business needs.
To satisfy customer demands, product development teams must have access to boundless information, and this access must cross platforms, countries, and continents. Managing and sharing this information is one of the key challenges for the supplier.
Teamcenter Automotive Supplier can:
* Manage data from multiple CAD systems.
* Re-use design and engineering information.
* Leverage design work from different programs.
* Control the cost of quality through drawing version control.
* Manage mark-ups.
It augments the basic PLM features of Teamcenter software with special automotive orientated capabilities for product structure management, CAD model and drawing visualisation, multi-source CAD data management, product development change management, and document management.
Teamcenter virtual product development manager enables teams to use current CAD models, mark up or annotate drawings, measure part designs, compare changes with drawings, and interactively display large assembly models.
The product change process in Teamcenter Automotive Supplier supports the development of new products as well as changes that affect existing products, and provides a problem report, change request and change notice.
