ProDesign Lighting were recently commissioned by the Burswood Entertainment Complex to coordinate the architectural lighting design for the refurbishment of the hotel foyer, giving it a more sophisticated and stylish feel for guests.
Kevin Harris of ProDesign Lighting worked alongside architect Anthony Pettorino and specialist consultants to alleviate the foyer’s sunlight problem by suspending a series of 20 perforated, reinforced PVC sails.
While the sails served to shade the main public areas of the foyer during the day, a secondary component of the sail concept was to use them as a projection surface at night for decorative lighting and logo projection in conjunction with conferences and events.
For his lighting design, Mr. Harris chose a mixture of colour-changing luminaires, including moving head spots and fixed wash lights. The lights were installed on the foyer’s ground level and on the balconies of the first and sixth levels.
A sequence of lighting effects was also installed, so as the logos were projected onto the two largest sails, random colour changes and fading effects made for a visually stunning result.
Mr. Harris was commended for creating a unique and fresh atmosphere for the hotel, whilst also providing a solution to the excess sunlight problem in the foyer.
