Trafag’s new line of density sensors available from Practical Control Solutions has been developed for direct SF6 gas density measurement.
SF6 gas is used as an effective arc suppressor, insulator and coolant in medium and high voltage switch gear. Trafag density sensors help maintain the correct level of SF6 gas density, which is important for electrical safety.
Trafag's 8874 series SF6 gas density transmitters employ a pair of quartz tuning forks to reliably measure gas density using a patented measuring system.
One tuning fork resonating in a vacuum at 32.6 kHz serves as a reference while the second resonates in the SF6 gas atmosphere under measurement. The difference between the two resonant frequencies is directly proportional to SF6 gas density.
Unlike temperature compensated pressure transmitters, Trafag’s 8874 series density sensors are not subject to drift and do not require maintenance or recalibration.
