Practical Control Solutions introduces the Revo PC, a new intelligent device designed to manage power in multi-zone electrical heating systems using resistance heaters.
Designed to control individual Revo-S thyristors that supply power to each zone, the Revo PC’s predictive algorithm limits peak power to a preset maximum, an important consideration for energy customers on a maximum demand tariff.
Smart power limitation makes a live calculation of power at each period and generates output values for the next period. If the calculated power remains within the preset maximum limit each zone is run at full power. If the calculated power is greater than the preset maximum the output to each zone is reduced proportionately.
It also synchronises the power demand between the various heating zones so that power is drawn from the supply nearly uniformly rather than in peaks and troughs, eliminating flicker. This technique minimises harmonics and brings the power factor close to 1.
Temperature controllers set the output for each zone and are connected to the Revo PC by Modbus, Ethernet, Profibus or Profinet. The Revo PC system can be configured quickly with a simple setup process.
