Power Systems Australia was successful at winning a project for the Victorian Water board to supply and install two very quite generators. One project was at a sewrage plant located in Melbourne suburbs with residential properties on the boundary. In this particular case, noise was the critical factor.
PSA were chosen for their in house manufacturing and contract management expertise, and this project involved packaging of a 500 kVA and a 1,000 kVA generators into a 20’and 40’ container as well as civil and electrical works.
The enclosures were designed to meet 70 db(A) @ 1M so that 38 db(A) would be achieved at the residential boundaries. Considering that the generator noise is 105 db(A) @ 1M and the Exhaust noise level is 128 db(A) this took considerable engineering and acoustic design. Special considerations were also taken for OH&S and the environment with ingress into the containers not required for operation only for servicing. The environmental considerations were the bunding of fuel, oil and coolants.
