B&S Kitchens of Grafton have improved their workshop flexibility while designing and cutting up to three times faster, since adopting cabinet making software. Previous to the recent installation of a programme from Planit , the northern New South Wales company was using no design or manufacturing software. According to Robert Blinman, Production Manager, B&S Kitchens hand drew all their plans.
B&S Kitchens handle a variety of work, producing kitchens one week and pub or club fittings the next, so everything has to be flexible. Planit’s CAD facility allows the company to modify the library of standard designs with ease, or draw completely new cabinetry for custom designs.
Robert Blinman said that B&S Kitchens did their homework before choosing Planit and found that the product does what was required. B&S Kitchens also designed a lot quicker when nested with the CNC machine. With the accuracy in cutting out, drilling and hinging are done. Shaped or curved cabinets, in particular, are done in about ten times faster because B&S Kitchens does not have to use templates to draw the curves. This saves time.
Planit’s software is boosting B&S Kitchens’ productivity, but as the factory is consistently busy it does not plan on shedding any staff. Before the software was commissioned, Mr Blinman was trained for a total of seven days at Planit’s headquarters in Sydney. Then an installer/trainer came up to Grafton for a week to set it up.
Robert Blinman also stated that B&S Kitchens’ clients can view their kitchen before it is manufactured and installed. They can look at the plan, elevation and 3D picture, seeing all the images in colour as well. Making changes to drawn plans is simple and easy.
Engineered wholly and solely for the woodworking industry, Planit is a screen-to-machine software. For those workshops automating their businesses with CNC equipment, Planit is fully integrated with the Planit CNC centre, therefore providing a complete screen-to-machine solution that confirms all parts and part operations before sending data to the factory.
Planit software is easy to set-up for the building of cabinets using favourite joinery techniques. Based on a simple wizard, it allows the creation of unlimited set-ups, mixes various settings per job, changes from one style to another instantly and allows saving of the construction methods for use over and over again.
An operator can customise cabinet sizes, shape, or any construction to suit the customer's needs. Colours and textures can be selected for the whole room or for individual cabinets and parts. Lighting and reflections can be controlled to bring these designs to life well before any manufacturing has begun.
Unlimited detailing includes the following:
- Users can configure openings and interior parts.
- Placement of shelves, dividers, trays, and subassemblies.
- Control of door reveals, styles, guides and other options per opening.
- Materials can be changed per job, per room, per cabinet, or per part for complete control.
- Cabinet shapes can be edited in plan view, elevation view or side view.
- Prints are made for colour or detailed line drawings.
- Instant change is facilitated between various construction settings.
- Parts in part operations change instantly.
