Pilz Australia are launching a safety card for the servo amplifiers PMCprotego D, so that safety is integrated directly into the drive. When fitted with the safety card PMCprotego S, the servo amplifiers can provide a fully-fledged, safe drive solution with numerous safety functions, ranging from safe stop and safe motion functions to safe brake functions.
Users benefit from shorter reaction times, lower costs and new opportunities for co-operation between man and machine.
With safe motion, Pilz Australia are continuing to expand their drive technology and promote dovetailing of safety and standard control technology.
On the servo amplifiers PMCprotego DS, control logic and motion monitoring are separate. Motion is monitored precisely where it arises. This means that reaction times are reduced considerably, which is a key factor, particularly for safety on highly dynamic axes.
At the same time, fewer additional external safety components are required for reducing the costs. The integration of safety into the drive opens up new horizons for co-operation between man and machine. For example, machines can easily be set up at safely reduced speed with the guards open. This procedure reduces set-up times and increases the machine’s availability for the production process.
Servo amplifiers PMCprotego DS provide safety based on the evaluation of internal system variables. Unlike other solutions, a second encoder is not required in order to achieve SIL 2 (3), PL d (e) or Category 3 (4). This means that the overall costs are reduced.
With its safe brake test function, the safety card PMCprotego S can provide early detection of wear on brakes. Associated hazards, such as those from suspended loads, can therefore be averted. The functionality of the brake is automatically tested at regular intervals that eliminate the need for laborious testing process as well as stop the brake failing due to wear.
On the servo amplifiers PMCprotego DS, control and feedback of the safety functions are performed via safe inputs and outputs. This guarantees the device's openness towards standard market systems. The safety functions are also independent of the motor or encoder type that is used. This enables users to equip their machinery to suit their individual needs.
The additional slot for expansion cards provides the opportunity to connect numerous standard fieldbus systems by inserting an optional card. This enables solutions to be implemented in conjunction with third-party products.
