P+F named Emerson interface supplier for mining project

PEPPERL+Fuchs is Emerson Process Management ’s exclusive fieldbus interface supplier for the minerals processing plant at the BHP Billiton nickel/cobalt mine and treatment facility under construction near Ravensthorpe, Western Australia.

The new open cut mine and minerals processing plant is part of a $1.4 billion project that will produce up to 50,000 tons of nickel and 1400 tons of cobalt annually.

Emerson will install Pepperl+Fuchs’ FieldConnex system, a range of Foundation fieldbus interface solutions that includes the Power Hub (a fully redundant passive power supply system) and field trunk/spur protection consisting of segment protectors mounted in field junction boxes.

FieldConnex will tie field measurement instrumentation to Emerson’s DeltaV digital automation system with AMS Suite predictive maintenance software. These key components of the company’s PlantWeb digital plant architecture are at the core of the digital approach that will include more than 2000 smart digital field devices. The project is reportedly the largest Foundation fieldbus installation in Australia and the largest application for mineral processing in the world.
