The new Panasonic Toughbook CF-U1, brought to you by Peacock Bros , is the world’s first ruggedized ultra mobile PC and is now available here in Australia after receiving an overwhelming acceptance in the US.
Already popular with law enforcement and government field operations departments, the multi-functionality opens the door for data management requirements such as single hand carrying, mounting into forklifts, trucks and cars and connecting any brand of wireless or USB data capture device. Upgrade options now include 1D or 2D barcode scanners and an RFID reader, designed for warehouse and transport data capture and data management applications that use resource intensive operations.
The Toughbook CF-U1 combines a fully featured laptop with handheld device functionality, all encased in a lightweight rugged housing that can easily be held and operated from one hand. Panasonic has provided powerful computing power equal to many desktops including 1024 x 600 pixel touch screen, Intel Atom processor and an optional almost indestructible solid state hard drive running either Windows XP or Vista.
The Toughbook has all the functionality of a desktop PC, with plenty of processing power, hard drive storage space and RAM but adds complete portability for operations out in the field. It can be held for long periods via a clever hand strap at the back of the device. With an IP54-compliant rating, a 1.2 meter drop approval and sealed all-weather housing for extreme workplace conditions CF-U1 is ideal for extreme environments.
Taking the CF-U1 out on the road doesn’t mean you loose any connectivity with 802.11 WWAN and the V2 Bluetooth allows for continual use around your workplace where a wireless network is not available or connection via your phone card over the 3G network for remote usage.
