One of Australia’s premier custom injection moulders has achieved rapid payback on his investment in new on-site gas generation technology to enhance product quality while reducing costs.
Gamsee Industries in Melbourne recently installed a domnick hunter MAXIGAS nitrogen generator package that also facilitates safe and productive work practices.
Gamsee Managing Director Kris Juzva says the equipment paid for itself within 12 months through savings on gas alone – as well as achieving better workplace efficiencies and being extremely reliable in service.
The domnick hunter MAXIGAS generator, supplied by Champion Compressors, is part of a nitrogen supply system used in plastic injection moulding machines to produce hollow sections in plastic components ranging from intricate parts for building products to major automotive body panels and industrial components.
Because the hollow sections are needed to ensure product quality and reduce production cycle times, it is important have an uninterrupted, reliable and safe source of nitrogen gas 24 hours a day. This facilitates production continuity whilst eliminating the need for constant replacement and handling of conventional gas cylinders.
To keep pace with its expanding production needs – Gamsee’s injection moulding facility includes presses from 25 to 850 tonnes – the company uses a MAXIGAS unit delivering 10 Nm3/h nitrogen at 1% oxygen content and at a pressure of 600 to a low pressure storage vessel. From there it is transferred to a Battenfeld high-pressure compressor for delivery at 330 bar to press equipment.
Using a carbon molecular sieve to separate oxygen from compressed air to produce clean, dry high purity nitrogen, the generators can be set to supply nitrogen at purities of 97% to 99.999%.
Benefits of the switch – besides quality, consistency and production efficiency – also include workplace safety, says domnick hunter’s Mr John Davis, Business Development Manager, Gas Generation and Purification.
Continuous gas generators are part of a broader range of products specifically aimed at manufacturers and processors by domnick hunter, which is one of the world’s leading specialists in gas and liquid filtration, purification and separation.
