According to PTC 23 universities and technical colleges in the State of North Rhine Westphalia have teamed up using Pro/ENGINEER and Windchill for critical engineering education. Up to 45,000 engineering students per year can be trained on PTC solutions.
The Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH Aachen University), one of the leading technical universities in Europe, is driving the project by deploying Pro/ENGINEER for 3D product design and Windchill for content and process management, within the North Rhine Westphalian Resource Network.
Universities have a critical need to complement traditional engineering curricula with collaboration skills required by international multi-site engineering projects. However, more and more European universities face constraints in budget and teaching resources, which make it difficult for the schools to deliver the training necessary to compete in today’s highly competitive global manufacturing environment.
To meet these challenges, universities and colleges are looking for new and more efficient learning concepts that add flexibility and bandwidth to traditional methods. PTC enables up to 10.000 parallel users to work with Pro/ENGINEER and 5,000 users to access PTC- University with Windchill and Pro/ENGINEER training courses and teaching material for students and teaching staff.
The use of digital design and collaboration tools is becoming a key element of engineering training curricula. To be able to participate in globally distributed projects, engineers have to be proficient, both in the use of digital modelling and collaboration tools.
With Pro/ENGINEER, engineering students can be provided with access to mechanical design software that represents the state of the art in modelling capability and associativity with downstream processes. And with Windchill, students learn to apply project collaboration as practices in engineering and cross-discipline processes. The additional use of the PTC-University learning platform expands traditional teaching offerings to innovative E-learning methods and curricula within a blended learning model.
