Equipment from Packaging Automation is distributed by MPI in Australia. Packaging Automation have launched a tray sealer known as the eco-cut. Packaging Automation have invested heavily to develop the eco-cut tray sealer. They have recently found that one or more companies are either deliberately or inadvertently using the trade marked name to describe other packaging equipment, implying that alternative machines can offer the same savings and waste reduction capacity as the eco-cut tray sealer.
Packaging Automation are determined to protect both the trade mark and the patent. Despite wanting to avoid litigation, Packaging Automation are challenging a particular packaging equipment manufacturer for breaching the trade mark. Sales Manager Packaging Automation, Neil Ashton said that the eco-cut has been protected by trade mark and patent to defend the ability of the machine to cut film usage and waste by reducing the centres between trays and removing waste from the edges of the film. According to the Managing Director, Carol Royal, Packaging Automation have evidence that their trade mark is being infringed and their lawyers will be contacting offending parties soon.
