The new SCN electric cylinder series SuperCylinders are already being used in the mining, steel, defence, materials handling, communication, food and other industries, they replace both electric and hydraulic cylinders.

The Duff Norton SCN electric cylinder Series SuperCylinders use the combination of a precision guided translating tube system, coupled to a motor and reducer through a trunnion housing. Three basic configurations of SuperCylinders available are offset, parallel and right angle.

The ground and chrome plated translating tube sliding in polymeric bearings produces good resistance to buckling and wear. This guided tube assembly lets SuperCylinders achieve greater stroke lengths in compressive loading than is possible with conventional double clevis mounted mechanical actuators.

Enclosure of the screw by the tube system shields it from environmental contaminants and retains lubricants, requiring less maintenance and allowing longer service. Electric cylinder SuperCylinders use hydraulic cylinder grade wiper seals to exclude dirt from the screw area. The modular design concept employed by Duff Norton electric cylinder allows an unlimited choice of gear ratios and configurations enabling precise tailoring of actuators speeds, capacities, motor types and life requirements.
