Containing no controversial chemicals, and no components requiring special regulatory approval, EPI TDPA degradable plastic technology is food contact approved and will not alter the performance properties or physical characteristics of the plastic.
EPI TDPA degradable plastic is indistinguishable in look, weight, and performance from conventional plastic. It can be incorporated into most commodity resins, such as LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, PP, and PS. Once EPI TDPA activates degradation, the plastic experiences a loss in tensile strength and elasticity and becomes brittle, breaks up into small pieces, then biodegrades into carbon dioxide, water and biomass.
The type and percentage of the EPI TDPA degradable plastic additive used determines the period before breakdown. By specially formulating the blend, breakdown can be controlled to occur as soon as six months or as far out as six years after manufacture.
