Sam Bastounas has been elected the new President of the Board of the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA).

According to PACIA Chief Executive, Margaret Donnan, Sam has accepted this position of leadership in challenging times for the chemicals and plastics industry. She adds that Sam brings great energy, insight and passion for a sustainable future of the industry in Australia, and his considerable experience within major businesses in the chemicals and plastics industry in Australia and in emerging Asian markets will be of significant value to PACIA members and the industry.

Sam Bastounas was appointed President Australasia at Nuplex Industries in 2011 after two years as Nuplex’s Chief Operating Officer for the Australasian based Functional Materials and Specialties operations. Nuplex is a leading global specialist in developing and manufacturing innovative resins used in decorative, industrial automotive and protective coatings. His current role at Nuplex follows extensive industry experience including stints at Dulux and Valchem.

A PACIA Board member since 2011, Sam was appointed PACIA Vice President in December 2012. Jonathan Clancy, Qenos Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, has been elected as the new PACIA Vice-President.

The PACIA Board expressed its sincere thanks to the former President Ross McCann for his strong leadership since 2008.
