Established in 1992, the Outdoor Power Equipment Association (OPEA) represents the manufacturers and distributors of outdoor power equipment in Australia.

The association’s mission states:

“OPEA aims to promote the growth of the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry for the benefit of all participants in the supply chain, from manufacturer to consumer.”

Members are involved in the manufacture and distribution of various outdoor power equipment machines, including:

  • Blowers and vacuums
  • Chainsaws
  • Chippers and mulchers
  • Demolition saws
  • Engines – with both horizontal and vertical shafts
  • Hedge trimmers
  • Lawn mowers
  • Edgers
  • Generators
  • Trimmers and brush cutters
  • Pumps
  • Ride on mowers
  • Tillers and rotary hoes
  • Split booms and pole pruners
The association is particularly interested in ensuring the outdoor power equipment industry expands and develops, particularly in the retail/dealership area.

Subsequently, the association provides its members with dealership programs that aim to enhance sales and customer satisfaction.

Thanks to the support of member suppliers, the association has also been able to provide staff training, tax seminars, hazard documentation and organise outdoor power equipment industry trade shows.

The association has played an important role in the development of a Franchising Code of Conduct, which affects suppliers and retailers of outdoor power equipment.

Many of the comments and suggestions put forward by the association were considered by the government body responsible for creating the Code of Conduct, as the association is recognised for its ability to address the needs and interests of the outdoor power equipment industry.

The association encourages its members to abide by a Code of Ethics, which place a high importance on honesty, integrity, safety and the provision of quality customer service.
