Major Veterinary Hospital Installs Oxygen Generation System from On Site Gas Systems

Veterinary Specialist Services and Animal Emergency Services on the Gold Coast in Queensland have installed an onsite oxygen generation system supplied by On Site Gas Systems , making them self-sufficient in their requirement for medical air and medical oxygen.

On Site Gas Systems supplied a compressor, appropriate air filtration to deliver medical grade air, an onsite oxygen generator, two automatic gas back-up control panels and a medical gas alarm panel.

On Site Gas Systems supervised the installation by Hosmed and also managed the system start-up as well as commissioning.

The onsite oxygen generation system produces 370LPM of medical air at pressures high enough for medical tool driving. The air is regulated down and reticulated throughout the hospital for breathing air.

The system also produces over 100LPM of medical oxygen to the USP (US Pharmacopeia) medical oxygen standard of 93%.

The medical air produced meets the standards for hospital grade medical air and is equivalent to the quality stipulated by the European Pharmacopoeia for hospital/ medical quality air.

The customer asked On Site Gas Systems to install a fail over system for both the air and oxygen so that in the event of any major problem, the reticulation would automatically switch over to back-up cylinder gas.

The back-up panel for oxygen has a constant reading of the oxygen purity being produced and if this falls below certain set points then the back-up gas will take over. Similar set-ups were put in place for air and oxygen based on pressure.

For absolute monitoring, On Site Gas installed one of their proprietary medical gas alarm panels in the hospitals ICU, which will indicate if the back-up gas banks have had to take over and the specific reason for the switch.

The system was installed in April 2010 and there has been 100% up time since initial commissioning. The back-up gas has not been used saving the customer substantial sums of money while eliminating the risks involved in constant cylinder changeover.

The customer is installing an identical oxygen generation system at their other hospital in Brisbane shortly.
