THE Smelter Boot by Oliver Footwear is proving to be one of Ballarat and Victoria's latest export successes.
The Smelter Boot has been specially designed for safety protection in the hot metal industries - smelting, casting and melting operations.
The boots are made of heat resistant and flame retardant leather with a velcro closure system which prevents the entry of hot metal spillages into the boot. They meet the performance requirements of several international standards in regard to flame and heat resistance, caustic and acid resistance, cut and water resistance.
The heavy wearing capability is reflected in the use of Kevlar heat resistant stitching which protects against metal splashes and accidental immersion in a melting pot.
The boots are heat resistant to 300°C and have been dip tested to 960°C for three seconds in molten aluminium, as the international standards require as a mark of performance.
Other features include a steel safety toecap and an optional steel metatarsal guard. The soling material is dual density rubber known as SOFTtrac which helps reduce leg and foot fatigue. Finally the POWERflex impact absorption system reduces the incidence of heel strike and cushions the feet.
The Oliver Smelter Boots are produced in full sizes from size 3 to 13 and in half sizes from 5 1/2 to 10 1/2 .
