Network Appliance strengthens data centre offerings with new enterprise storage solutions
Network Appliance has broadened its footprint in the high-end data centre market with the introduction of the new FAS6000 and V6000 series solutions.
Enhancements to these data centre storage systems provide enterprises greater flexibility to support demanding IT environments and massive scalability to consolidate application data and grow it on the fly.
The Network Appliance FAS6000 and V6000 systems help maximise application-level availability and high storage utilisation to reduce power, space, and cooling costs.
These features, coupled with the Network Appliance unified storage architecture, offer incredible business value for enterprise customers.
"We listen to our customers and respond with innovation that impacts their businesses," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of solutions marketing at Network Appliance.
"The new FAS6000 and V6000 series further scale our product line to provide the largest and most demanding businesses with the best modular storage solutions available today. Network Appliance is arming enterprise IT professionals with the necessary tools to exceed their business goals."
The four new systems announced include the FAS6040 and FAS6080 and the corresponding V-Series solutions, the V6040 and V6080. The enhanced FAS6000 series of modular storage systems is designed to handle the largest applications and consolidations found in enterprise data centres.
In fact, the FAS6080 is the first modular storage system to exceed more than 1PB in storage capacity. The FAS6040 and FAS6080 offer a significant amount of capacity with increased support for up to 1TB disk drives.
Additionally, the V6040 and V6080 enhance the value of third-party storage arrays by adding the data management features of the Network Appliance Data
Ontap software family - The longstanding tradition of Network Appliance unified storage-NAS, SAN, and iSCSI support in a single system-combined with increased capacity performance and provisioning means that enterprise customers can experience reduced space, power, and cooling costs while preserving investments in legacy infrastructure.
The combination of capacity, energy efficiency, and application flexibility provide a good solution for IT executives looking to reduce total cost of ownership without sacrificing performance and ease of use.
Storage and I/O scalability are key features of the FAS6000 series.
The FAS6080 system can be configured with over 1100TB of raw storage capacity using up to 1,176 hard disk drives. Similarly, the FAS6040 system can support over 800TB of capacity using as many as 840 disk drives.
Both models have a high-bandwidth controller design that provides I/O expandability of up to 56 integrated 4Gb-per-second Fibre Channel ports or 52 1Gb-per-second Ethernet ports.
New entry-level configurations
Network Appliance has also announced the new FAS2000 configurations, which now support SATA drives internally in addition to already-shipping SAS-internal configurations.
For price-per-capacity leadership at the entry level, these configurations provide a low price points and high storage density in a 2U or 4U rack footprint-and more capacity in a smaller footprint means lower energy, power, and cooling costs. The FAS2020 also supports up to four external expansion shelves for a maximum raw capacity of up to 65TB.
