Network Appliance joins The Green Grid Consortium

Network Appliance,  a leading provider of storage and data management solutions has joined The Green Grid, a non-profit, technology-driven consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centres and business computing ecosystems.

The Green Grid is chartered to develop meaningful, platform-neutral standards, measuring methods, processes, and new technologies.

Membership in The Green Grid is open to IT industry professionals, particularly data centre managers and IT operations executives, with an interest in addressing global energy consumption issues.

As power, space, and, cooling requirements continue to grow in data centres around the world, NetApp is committed to helping customers deploy leading-edge data management techniques to reduce power consumption.

"Our customers are seeing explosive data growth and they are broadening the focus of their long-term data centre power reduction efforts to include storage and data management practices," said Chris Bennett, vice president of Core Systems at NetApp.

"While we can't eliminate the unending thirst for data, NetApp is helping customers buy and use less storage to drive down their data centre's carbon footprint one byte at a time. Our membership in The Green Grid demonstrates our continued commitment to advancing greater energy efficiency in data centres."

The NetApp approach to halting power growth is to provide solutions that reduce raw storage and enable customers to do more with the storage systems already in their IT environments.

Today, customers can take advantage of NetApp technology to subtract machines and disks, reduce the overall data centre footprint, and maximise storage utilisation.

This approach not only helps IT organisations achieve greater power efficiency but also lowers infrastructure complexity and costs while enabling customers to better respond to new business demands.

As a member of The Green Grid, NetApp will continue to innovate and contribute best practices for reducing energy consumption in the data centre.
