NATIONAL Instruments has added an M series data acquisition (DAQ) device to its Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (ELVIS). It can be used to teach engineering, physical science and biological science principles.

The ELVIS product bundle is compatible with products from multiple educational vendors for teaching control design principles and microcontroller technologies. It is a LabVIEW-based design and prototyping platform for university science and engineering laboratories.

The bundle includes LabVIEW-based virtual instruments, a benchtop workstation and a data acquisition device. Users can combine ELVIS and LabVIEW with products from educational vendors to teach multiple engineering concepts such as control design, signal processing and microcontroller applications.

ELVIS reduces the cost of lab equipment by providing a digital multimeter, oscilloscope and function generator. Because it is based on the LabVIEW graphical development environment and provides complete data acquisition and prototyping capabilities, the system is suitable for academic courses ranging from lower-division classes to advanced project-based curriculums.
