MOXA has released the NE-4110S/A network enablers, offering Ethernet connectivity to network-enable RS-232 (NE-4110S) and RS-422/485 (NE-4110A) serial devices. They measure 57mm x 40mm and can be easily integrated into serial devices.
The add-on module requires no circuit modification and the RJ-45 design is suited to any type of Ethernet connector. The TCP/IP stack supports TCP Server, TCP Client, UDP, and Real COM operation modes. This makes it easy for R&D engineers to network-enable serial devices.
Serial devices such as card readers, SCADA systems, and controllers that have been network-enabled can be monitored in real time over a network. This data can be integrated with business systems to create a business information system.
The network enablers come with a 10/100 Ethernet auto-sensing interface that allows serial devices to transmit data over the network at the higher speed, when available. They consume less than 1.5W of power. Four dedicated GPIO pins provide ample design flexibility. Configuration is done with a Windows utility, Web browser, or serial console. A Windows-based, network enabler configuration interface library is available to help users develop their own Windows utilities.
A C-programmable version is available for custom applications such as protocol conversion and front-end data processing. The NE-4110S/A software development kit includes a Turbo C compiler and more than 100 application program interface functions for socket command and serial port control. Sample programs are included to reduce software developing time.
