Moxa Inc. has supplied a complete IP CCTV solution for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in Taichung, Taiwan.
Public transportation has been an important focus for city development in recent years to improve traffic management and quality of life. Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems are popular thanks to their low cost, high flexibility, high efficiency, and shorter development time compared to railways or MRTs.
The city of Taichung, Taiwan has invested in six BRT lines that will operate in 20 or more sections of the city. An important part of ensuring that the BRT system works reliably and efficiently is the implementation of a video surveillance system that encompasses every aspect of the BRT line, including stations, buses, and control rooms.
Although IP CCTV video surveillance systems are now commonplace in cities around the world, not all systems are created equal. When the entire system is up and running, the CCTV systems in each station should connect with the CCTV system in the control room, with operators in the control room expected to watch live video feeds from cameras installed in each BRT station and along the bus route. Events triggered at any part of the video surveillance system should automatically alert operators in the control room.
The choice of camera is also a major concern when building surveillance systems for BRTs. Unlike residential video surveillance systems, surveillance camera solutions for BRT systems require a variety of camera types to be installed in different parts of the system. For instance, mini dome cameras are recommended for ticket vending machines while PTZ dome cameras are suitable for station platforms.
