The Fire Evacuation functionality available as part of the Mitrefinch Time and Attendance Management System is being used by Akzo Nobel company, International Coatings to ensure the safety of visitors and personnel on-site.
Part of the Akzo Nobel group, International Coatings UK is one of the world's largest specialist varnishes and paints manufacturing plants employing over 800 employees with an average of 400 visitors and contractors on site every day.
Given the composition of the coatings being manufactured at the plant, the risk of fire or the possibility of a chemical release is quite high, leading to workplace health and safety considerations.
Recognising the risk of fire, International Coatings is utilising the Fire Evacuation functionality available as part of the Mitrefinch Time and Attendance Management System whereby, all visitors, staff and contractors must log onto the Mitrefinch application at the point of entry to the plant.
In the event of an evacuation, a full report of all personnel and visitors onsite can be produced instantly, providing rescue teams with vital real-time information. Set to print eight minutes after an alarm has been set off, the report allows for those onsite to be evacuated with only those who have not registered as ‘safe' after the pre-set time reported to ensure that only the most recent data is used for rescue purposes.
A weekly report is generated to verify staff attendance during appointed hours and distributed to Departmental Managers for their review. In addition, regular tests and reports are run to ensure the effectiveness of the Fire Evacuation functionality.
By ensuring that they have the right technology in place for assured safety of personnel and visitors on site, International Coatings is able to focus on its manufacturing activities.
