Magnetic Grippers
The Schmalz Magnetic Grippers (SGM), are an ideal method of automated handling of complex laser cut workpieces or sheet metal that has perforations or holes in it.
Vacuum handling systems are common place in normal sheet metal handling applications, however, they fail when trying to handle sheet metal with holes in it.
A static magnet gripper that is controlled by either a vacuum control circuit or a compressed air control circuit, means it can be used as a stand alone item, or can be used in conjunction with suction cup systems, to safely handle these types of materials.
Schmalz Magnetic Grippers
The design of the magnetic grippers SGM is simple and robust. They consist of an aluminium housing with an integrated permanent magnet that moves up and down within the body of the gripper, as well as hose connectors for the vacuum or compressed air supply. A threaded hole at the top of the magnet gripper allows many fixture options.
Features and Benefits of Schmalz Magnetic Grippers
- No electric power required
- Safe handling in case of emergency stop situation
- Easily mounted to existing end of arm tooling systems
- Controlled with vacuum or compressed air pulse
Unlike electromagnets, the permanent magnet gripper SGM does not have a residual magnetism caused by an electric coil, which can potentially pick a piece of sheet metal even though the magnet has not been activated. The static magnet is physically moved away from the sheet metal so there is no chance of an incorrect pick.
