Millsom Vacuum Handling are able to provide the complete range of SCHMALZ large area vacuum gripping devices which are used on robot heads or automated vacuum materials handling systems.

Vacuum Gripper Systems are used whenever products are difficult to lift or when more than one type of product is needed to be lifted with the one vacuum head. Vacuum gripper systems enable the handling of workpieces that are varied in shape and size, and may have proven difficult to handle using conventional systems.

The main difference between this type of system, and a conventional vacuum handling system, is the durable foam suction mat, making uneven shaped workpieces simple to handle. The foam mat incorporates an array of valves that close when not in contact with the product.

Vacuum Gripper Systems are divided into three main categories:

FX/FM Large Area Grippers
A modular design with maximum flexibility, the FX/FM range of large area vacuum gripper systems are the most versatile of the range. Used as a single unit, or coupled with others, these grippers can be made to match a specific handling task.

Incorporating a vacuum generator and a robot mounting plate, the FX range are a complete, ready to use solution. A large variety of sizes and options are available.

SBX Plank Handling
Handling of sawn wood, sheets, laminated beams, or pallets with rough surfaces, the SBX is a perfect light-weight but strong device for use on the end of wood handling robots or automated systems.

The SBX can handle either a single board or a complete layer of loose planks with ease. The vacuum is activated using solenoid valves, with the vacuum generator housed inside the body of the unit, which doubles as a vacuum reservoir. The reservoir enables a powerful activation of the vacuum, which ensures a short cycle time and a reliable hold.

SPZ Layer Gripper
The newest addition to the large area gripper range, the SPZ is designed to palletise and de-palletise complete layers of product. Incorporating check valves, it is also able to handle partial layers. Applications for this product include cardboard boxes, pavers, tiles, as well as slip-sheets and the pallet in which the product is being placed on.

For increased stability, the SPZ can be optionally fitted with side stabiliser bars that help allow higher transverse accelerations in demanding automated applications. A special version is also available for handling deep-frozen goods.
