BANNER Engineering, represented in Australia by Micromax has released the World-Beam QS18U series of ultrasonic sensors. It uses the World-Beam standard housing for mounting and application flexibility.

Ultrasonic sensors are suitable for applications where the sensing target is made of clear or transparent material or the target surface colour varies. They also deliver high accuracy in wet or dirty environments and provide reliable background suppression proximity sensing.

They are small, with a 50mm to 500mm sensing window and push-button TEACH programming, making them suitable for a range of applications in the packaging, materials handling, pulp and paper, semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries.

They can be used for detecting clear web materials in confined areas, mounted directly on or inside conveyors and automated machinery. They can also be used for detecting clear or shiny bottles on a filling line from within a confined location. They can detect highly-reflective silicon wafers that could fool a traditional photoelectric sensor. They can be used for liquid or media level detecting from inside small or cramped locations.

Bright green and amber status LEDs are visible from 360° and the sensors come with 2m or 9m integral cable, four-pin Euro or Pico-style integral quick-disconnects or four-pin Euro or Pico-style 150mm threaded pigtail quick-disconnect cable options.

The sensors have solid-state bipolar outputs, one current sourcing (PNP) and one current sinking (NPN). They have with a 15ms response time and models are available in both IP67 and IP69K.
