Mettler Toledo announces the acquisition of the Smiths Detection Product Inspection division and will adopt the well-known Eagle brand of food X-ray inspection systems.
The Eagle brand of expert inspection products will continue to operate as a separate business entity using existing sales and service channels.
The strategic business expansion will help Eagle customers to benefit from strengthened service and support through a larger network of service technicians and application support.
With the acquisition, Eagle also becomes part of Mettler-Toledo’s Product Inspection division, which is focused on helping food manufacturers meet their inspection requirements.
The acquisition will also help Mettler-Toledo increase its commitment to the food X-ray business, driving additional strategic investments in technology and application development.
Terry Woolford, General Manager, Eagle says that the acquisition will boost customer service while expanding their field support, application capability and market coverage.
As part of Mettler-Toledo, Eagle will be even more effective at helping manufacturers enhance quality, safety and productivity on their lines.
Kristian Laskey, Head of X-Ray Business at Mettler-Toledo comments that the inclusion of the Eagle brand will help them provide an even wider range of world-class product inspection solutions such as fat analysis tools to product manufacturers around the world for a variety of applications in food, consumer goods as well as meat and poultry businesses.
Eagle’s X-ray inspection systems detect contaminants such as metal, glass, stone and bone while also having the ability to check mass, evaluate compartmentalised fill level, and analyse fat content.
Other brands in Mettler-Toledo’s portfolio include Hi-Speed, Garvens, Safeline and CI-Vision for comprehensive product inspection.
