An article released in the USA magazine Packaging Digest highlighted the success that Quicklabel Systems have had with the release of the four colour digital label printer called the Vivo!

The Vivo! was purchased by a professional US-based Carpet Cleaning and Upholstery Cleaning Products Manufacturer called Bridgepoint. Bridgepoint currently has 12 company stores and a mass array of independent distributors that operate under the Hydro-Force name. The Bridgepoint main manufacturing plant is based in Salt Lake City and currently blends and bottles its custom chemical formulations, which include carpet cleaners, soaps, spot removers, deodorisers, protectors, restoration chemicals, and wood floor care products.

Packaging of the chemicals range from pints to drums and prior to the purchase of the Quicklabel’s Vivo!. Bridgepoint purchased the bottles for its lower volume products from a screen printer that decorated the containers in two colours designed by Bridgepoint’s in-house graphics team.

The disadvantage according to the spokesman from Bridgepoint Systems was the lead time required for each order which could range from 3 weeks for a standard bottle to two months for private labels, also the swings in demand resulting in either too few or too many containers at the end of the run and the lack of shelf presence of the two colour printed bottles in the retail market.

However, with Quicklabel’s Vivo! Printer it is a different story. The Vivo! is an electrophotographic printer that used four imaging drums to print text, graphic and bar codes in four process colours directly from a PC at a speed of 2 inches per second. The Bridgepoint Graphics Team designs its graphics and simply uploads the completed designs to Vivo! Printer where they are stored until required.

Bridgepoint Systems has recently redesigned their 1 gallon chemical bottles and the new labels have been designed to better differentiate product lines by using constant graphics, readable product dilution instructions, warnings and medical safety data sheets and a barcode. Making the products stand out on the retail shelf.

The label stock, a paper based, gloss coated substrate supplied by QuickLabel has proven to be durable enough to withstand the extremes of the Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners. Bridgepoint is currently producing three label sizes. The Vivo! can print standard Label Widths from 3 to 8.1 inches and full bleed labels from 3 to 7.6 inches Wide and lengths 2 to 50 inches.

The advantages that Bridgepoint mention include instead of a two to three month turnaround for private label products they are now able to quote two to three weeks or even days, Bridgepoint believe this to be a massive competitive advantage. Bridgepoint have also calculated that they have reduced its total bottling costs including the label by 30 percent.

Another advantage is amount of space they save without having to store all the pre printed bottles and if a change is required to adhere to certain requirements the change is simply made to the label as required.

Bridgepoint’s technicians have found the Quicklabel Systems Vivo! user friendly, easy to set up, a clean machine and love the simplicity of pushing print.

Quicklabel Systems is a leading supplier of thermal transfer printers, barcode printers, thermal transfer ribbon and full colour printers. Metromatics has been Quicklabel’s exclusive Australasian distributor for over seventeen years. The Vivo! is now available in Australia.
