Megger  offers the PFL22M1500 cable fault location system designed for fast, accurate and safe location of faults on underground cables.
 
Designed as a single rugged and compact portable system, Megger’s cable fault locators incorporate a high voltage generator with surge generation capabilities and a high performance Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR), enabling a wide range of fault location techniques to be deployed without the need for additional equipment.
 
An essential resource for utilities and companies involved in the maintenance of continuity of power supply, the PFL22M1500 test set is designed for ease of use and reliable performance. The system operates from a 240 V single phase supply with an optional inverter module available to allow the unit to be powered from a battery in remote locations.
 
The high voltage generator incorporated in the PFL22M1500 cable fault locators provides user-selectable surge output voltage ranges of 0 to 8 kV and 0 to 16 kV with constant surge energy of 1,500 Joules. The device also offers a steady DC output of 0 to 10 KV at up to 115 mA and 0 to 20 kV at 55 mA.
 
These facilities in conjunction with the integrated TDR support the use of the arc reflection, arc reflection plus, differential arc reflection and current impulse techniques for cable fault pre-location.
 
The high voltage generator also allows users to perform conditioning to stabilise faults and to carry out high voltage insulation tests. The surge generator also functions as an ideal complement for Megger’s MPP2000 acoustic and electromagnetic pinpointer.
 
The MTDR100 TDR incorporated into the Megger PFL22M1500 cable fault locator features a large 26cm XGA colour display for intuitive single dial operation. Distances are covered from 100m to 55km in ten ranges, and pulse widths from 50 nS to 10 µS.

When used with the arc reflection plus Megger’s unique fault pre-location technique, the MTDR100 can capture up to 1,024 traces during the period of the arc and analyse them to provide the best possible fault location information even in difficult situations.
