The new Linx 7300 printer
The new Linx 7300 printer

Matthews Intelligent Identification  has launched the new Linx 7300 printer in Australia, designed to avoid the sometimes “hidden” costs of coding.

Key facts:

  • innovative print-head cleaning and drying reduce manual attention, improving uptime
  • scanning codes ensures fast, error-free code changes
  • printer settings easily transferred to a different printer
  • unit design hastens cleaning for dirt and liquids
  • ability to tailor servicing intervals according to operating environment
  • reduced consumables costs and mistake-proof refills

Suited to a wide range of industries, technology in the continuous inkjet (CIJ) printer focuses on pared-back running costs and service intervals tailored to the printer’s operating environment to reduce servicing — both achieved without compromising quality.

Matthews’ national sales and marketing manager Phil Biggs says, “Running costs are critical to the purchasing decision for many companies — not just initial outlay, but the accumulated cost of ownership in terms of ongoing operation and maintenance, so the Linx 7300 also features minimised production downtime, error-free coding and future-proofing. All these innovations mean savings of up to $6,000 in fact, in the first year of operating.

“Dynamically adjusted service intervals, for instance, actually tailors service intervals to the customer’s specific environment and usage, with intervals of up to 6,000 hours possible. That’s a terrific innovation.”

There are no expensive ink modules to replace, and similarly, there is no need to change the ink tank between services, another hidden cost with some coding equipment.

The Linx 7300 also minimises consumable costs.

Biggs says while  the standard printer offers enviable economy in solvent consumption, heavy, 24/7 users would benefit from the 7300 Solver option, which can cut solvent use up to 40% by using specially created intelligent software that “thinks as it inks” to adjust solvent use  according to the application.

The innovative SureFill system means operators cannot refill the printer with incorrect inks or solvent, avoiding service call-outs or repairs.

Gain up to one week uptime

Cleaning and drying innovations in the Linx 7300 mean manual cleaning is only needed once a month. This eliminates productions delays to the point customers can gain up to one week of production uptime during the first year of installation, compared with a printer that requires daily cleaning, says Mario Soccio, Matthews’ national service manager.

“This is simply because the FullFlush system delivers the most thorough cleaning and drying of the print-head and conduit at every shutdown.”

The printer’s robust, curvaceous stainless steel enclosure also avoids dirt traps and allows liquid to run easily off the printer.

Fast, accurate coding changes reduce errors

Fast and easy code changes are essential to optimising production time. Accuracy is ensured with the QuickSwitch software, where operators simply scan the barcodes on pre-printed job sheets or on products being coded. An integral USB port sees problem-free code and printer-setting transfer between printers.

Future proofing

“To ‘future proof’ a business’s investment, the Linx 7300 can adapt when your needs change over time,” Phil Biggs says. “For instance, Data Matrix and three-line coding are provided as standard, with optional four and five-line printing; plus there’s a wide range of code formats available, including logos and barcodes.”
