Automation Expo, held at Australia’s large automation centre, is a trade show where everyone can see demonstrations of the new intelligent coding and marking equipment — and, more importantly, just how the business can benefit from them.

Matthews Intelligent Identification was a part of the Automation Expo, held by Robotics Australia at its Knoxfield, Victoria, premises.
The demonstration days will combine seminars with more than 20 interactive and working demonstrations. The open days can bring together several specialists across a myriad fields, including labelling and coding, industrial sensor technology, pneumatic automation technology, safety guarding, fencing and conveying, PLCs, machine-vision systems and sensors, plus wrapping and sealing consumables.
Peter Davis, National Marketing Officer for Robotic Automation, says, were live and continuous demonstrations throughout in a “free to explore” exhibit format; a short seminar on the advanced use and capabilities of automatic guided vehicles by guest presenter Pat Conway, of FMC Technologies, USA, held twice daily.
Matthews Intelligent Identification’ Safety Products were on display at Safety in Action and Melbourne Materials Handling held at “Jeff’s Shed” (the Melbourne Exhibition Centre) from 29 April to 1 May.
Safety In Action and Melbourne Materials Handling featured more than 350 companies displaying a large range of workplace health and safety, along with materials and manual-handling products and services.
Among them was Matthews Intelligent Identification’ Safety Products, on stand F48, showing the simple, cost-effective PIG Water Hog, plus other spill-containment, safety and industrial-absorbents products.
The heavy-duty Water Hog can be submersed in hydrocarbons and absorbs moisture; it helps maintain high engine performance and prevents frozen fuel lines, plus helps combat rust, algae, filter blockages and engine failure.
Held from 18-20 May at the Sheraton Mirage Resort & Spa on the Gold Coast, Matthews Intelligent Identification participated at the 2008 AusDrinks programme that featured international and national speakers. Issues affecting the industry were addressed, from production and technical issues, to marketing and regulatory affairs.
Matthews Intelligent Identification, a bronze sponsor, will be on stand 28 at the 2008 AusDrinks, showcasing intelligent solutions it has installed into non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverage producers across Australia.
These producers include Coca Cola Amatil, Cadbury Schweppes, National Foods (Berri), J. Boag & Son, Hardy Wine Company (part of the world’s large international wine business Constellation Wines), Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Brown Bros, Parmalat and Golden Circle.
Matthews Intelligent Identification was chosen to specifically sponsor a general seminar on day 3, Tuesday May 20. Presented by Professor Linda Tapsell, Director of the Smart Foods Centre at the University of Wollongong, the seminar is entitled, ‘Future Directions for Beverages’, and sits well with Matthews Intelligent Identification’ own forward-thinking approach to coding and marking.
The entire conference was useful for beverage industry personnel, as it seeks to explore what factors will impact the industry and, therefore, how operators can be well prepared.
