Matthews Intelligent Identification won the APPMA Design Achievement Award for its Australian-developed iDSnet PCM solution at AUSPACK 2011.
A solution “that will have a huge impact across the industry, and fills a need not otherwise being catered for” were just two of the reasons the judge gave for awarding Matthews’ iDSnet the APPMA’s top design award at AUSPACK 2011.
According to Awards judge Wade Leslie, director of Robotize, the iDSnet Package Code Management (PCM) solution provides a solution for traceability and quality assurance, two issues that have become increasingly important for manufacturers.
Explaining Matthews’ selection as the award winner, Mr Leslie says that iDSnet is a solution to a problem for a huge component of the manufacturing sector, especially all food and packaging companies.
He adds while there were other nominations that were truly impressive from an engineering perspective, they were pipped at the line by Matthews, since the iDSnet solution has a far greater impact across the industry.
Lester Nichol, Matthews’ MD and CEO says that the win was a terrific reward for iDSnet and recognition of its ongoing development.
Having won the ‘Best New Product’ award for iDSnet at AUSPACK 2009, the development team at Matthews has been steadily refining the PCM solution, which is currently installed in more than 100 Australian manufacturing plants and is also being exported.
PCM solutions ensure FMCG manufacturers always place the correct traceability codes on packaged goods. They save resources and prevent loss from product recall and rework.
Mr Nichol says that their iDSnet PCM solution can be tailored to provide seamless integration with SCADA, ERP and WMSs.
Additionally, it can connect with packaging devices such as coders, labellers and barcode scanners as well as receive information from printers on the production floor, offering greater visibility on printer operation.
iDSnet also offers PCM capabilities such as:
- Before delivering message formats from the database to the printer, it checks if the printer is actually capable of printing that format
- Can be used for remote diagnostics
- Can be customised to reflect processes on the production floor
- Produces production reports
- Generates fault and downtime reports
- Fully integrates with vision inspection systems
