MATTHEWS Intelligent Identification has released the I-Mark V80i OEM controller, an ink-jet controller designed for OEM and system integrator applications.
It allows machine builders and integrators to incorporate ink-jet marking into system design. This is valuable in situations where the cost of a printer can be avoided. The V80i has the ability to control up to four drop-on-demand (DOD) print-heads independently. This individual control of the attributes of each connected print-head includes dot size, print width, print delays and character height.
It has an anodised aluminium enclosure and can print at speeds of up to 3.56m/s, with character heights of 3.175mm-64mm per print-head. It has a variety of print formats, including static and dynamic message fields, upper and lower-case characters. A number of fonts are available as well as height/width/delay functions, an automatic roll-over clock and calendar functions, graphics/logos, bar codes (interleaved 2 of 5 and code 39), shift codes, sequential and batch numbering, logos with stitched print-heads, remote messaging and database imports.
Print-heads can be mixed and matched to allow operators to choose a variety of print-heads, such as 14mm, 28mm, 32mm, 64mm, 7V 3000, 16V 3000, 32V 3000, single-valve, and mini-drop.
The controller can use a variety of ink types, including fast dry, pigmented, dye and water-based inks. These can be used on porous and nonporous surfaces in a range of colours. The controller can also print on a variety of substrates, including ABS plastic, aluminium, brass, ceramic, coated paper, cold rolled steel, copper, corrugated, EPDM, felt, galvanised steel, glass, gypsum board, kraft paper and leather. It can also print on mylar, natural fabrics, neoprene, paper board, plastic film, plexiglass, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinylchloride, recycled paper, rubber, steel, stainless steel, synthetic fabrics, thermoplastic, urethane, vinyl, wall board and timber.
The V80i has a 256-message memory capacity and supports a variety of communication protocols, such as RS-232 and ASCII text. An optional setup utility kit includes a Windows graphical user-interface for managing printing attributes.
