Ferret.com.au met with a number of companies at the Sydney Safety Show 2012 to discuss the latest developments in industrial health and safety. In the video below, we talk with Robert Soban of Materials Handling P/L about an innovative new glass crusher the company now distributes before briefly mentioning a range of dock safety equipment.
The Expleco Oppressor GLS sand glass bottle crusher demonstrated above is a unique glass reduction machine that can reduce glass bottle waste to a fine sand at a ratio of 10:1. It is designed with bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs hotels, resorts and holiday home owners in mind and is particularly well suited for use in areas where recycling is either costly or does not exist.
The Oppressor GLS is easy to use and can be operated by one person to quickly crush a large volume of glass. To use, an operator simply ensures the bucket is not full and is inserted correctly, switches on the machine and feeds individual bottles through the rubber safety flap on the shoot.
Individually balanced, precision cut oppressors do the hard work, reducing glass bottles from their full state to a fine sand or grit in a matter of seconds. Disposal of the sand is equally simple, as the material is safe to handle without gloves.
Materials Handling P/L offers a wide variety of dock safety equipment, all of which is notable for its versatility. Users can pick and choose components as required for a given application meaning that they do not need to replace, as Robert suggests, “your entire loading dock just because you buy some lights off us.”
Components available include:
- the Smart Strap retractable dock barrier
- Dock Eye dock safety lights
- AeroTec dock fans; and
- the RxV dock door bottom replacement panel.
This high visibility yellow dock barrier replaces the signal function of the dock door opening and closing when the facility operates with the loading dock doors open. It features a high strength durable nylon strap that is retractable to keep clear of door openings when not in use.
Dock Eye safety lights are an ideal solution for truck and trailer lighting whilst loading/unloading at docks. Designed to provide light when and where it is needed, they are virtually indestructible and feature a stainless steel flexible tube design that withstands sudden impact and easily adjusts to any position.
Materials Handling has recently introduced a new 450 Green LED Dock Eye, which uses 60% less energy than a 150 Watt incandescent bulb, and has an expected bulb life of 85,000 hours, 250 times the life of a conventional 'par' incandescent bulb.
The AeroTec fan is designed to continuously pull new air in and push old air out. More than a typical dock fan, the AeroTec is actually an air exchanger that is capable of cooling, warming or moving out toxic gases in a truck within seconds.
It takes up to 75% less space than conventional arm-supported blade fans, and can also be interlocked with the Safety Signal or Smart Chock inside control units to eliminate wasteful energy consumption.
RxV replacement panels provide a unique solution to the constant abuse dock doors can be subjected to in busy loading environments. Capable of 'knocking out' in either direction, RxV panels are self-correcting, and also eliminate troublesome air and light gaps.
