The Queensland Energy Management Plan, which will see cheaper running costs for pool owners and a new information portal for consumers, has been welcomed by Master Electricians Australia .
Given the rise in electricity prices by 6.6%, Master Electricians Australia’s CEO Malcolm Richards comments that the new Energy Management Plan is a step in the right direction for energy efficiency, especially for homeowners in Queensland.
According to Mr Richards, the new energy initiative will benefit people living in the 300,000 homes in Queensland with a swimming pool, and in the 10,000 homes where new pools are built every year.
Under the new Energy Management Plan of the Queensland Government, pool owners will be able to access Tariff 33 electricity more easily from July 1, giving them cheaper power than is currently available under Tariff 11.
Present rules require pool filters to be hardwired to home electricity systems to access Tariff 33 electricity, but the new plan, effective from July 1 allows it to be accessed through a standard power point.
Mr Richards also supports the establishment of a Queensland Energy Management Centre announced as part of the plan, which he believes will enable Queenslanders to access information about how to make their homes more energy-efficient while allowing electricians to access the latest research to better inform their customers.
