Magellan Power's Solar Smoother has been named as Runner Up in the Horizon Power Renewable Energy Technology Challenge by the Department of Commerce.

WA Minister for Commerce Michael Mischin presented Magellan Power's Chief Technical Officer Lindsay Meek with the award.

The Solar Smoother innovation entered by Magellan Power was suitable for retrofitting to the DC-side of a standard residential rooftop solar installation. Magellan Power was a Finalist in the 2013 PACE Zenith Awards.

The smoother utilises the latest generation of cost-effective high-current lithium batteries as the storage elements, and connects these in parallel to the solar array using a bidirectional DC-DC converter to manage and smooth the PV power flow.
