MAGELLAN GPS Systems has announced the new Magellan Meridian Color GPS receiver - the first handheld GPS receiver to present all positioning and navigational information in full colour.
With the ability to view maps in vivid colour, a whole new dimension has been added to the navigation experience.
Delivering a large 16-colour, 120 x 160 pixel backlit display, the 227gm, pocketsize Meridian Color provides users with a brilliant view of built-in maps, including highways, major roads, parks, waterways, airports, cities and marine navigation aids, such as fixed and floating buoys and lighthouses.
In addition, its optional external antenna provides boaters and recreational vehicle owners with an even more powerful navigation solution for safe travel. Mariners will also appreciate the waterproof, slip-resistant housing that floats.
Meridian Color offers five to ten metre accuracy, with an extensive, 16MB, built in mapping database that provides an easy way to view locations, heading and route on a large, high contrast, high colour 120 x 160 pixel display.
The unit also features Meridian's Secure Digital (SD) memory card capability for significantly expanding flash memory capacity for storing and downloading Australian detailed mapping data from MapSend Streets software CD ROM.
The detailed Australian mapping available on MapSend Streets CD ROMs are available for every State in Australia.
The mapping detail consists of every street in every town, off road tracks, unsealed roads and points of interest such as post offices, hospitals, police stations and so on.
The SD card can be preloaded with the entire State in either a 16Mb or 32Mb card. It also allows users to travel from State to State by changing cards, or by having more than one State loaded on a larger 64MB or 128MB card.
Alternatively the user can upload their own SD cards using Magellan's Mapsend? Streets CD.
This full-featured, PC-compatible, 12-parallel-channel receiver stores up to 500 waypoints and 20 reversible routes with up to 30 legs.
Meridian Color receivers are also equipped with a quadrifilar helix antenna, for high-quality satellite signal reception and fast position fixes.
