How’d you like to bash your way from Brookvale to Bundaberg? With help from Macnaught, that’s just what two fuel and lube professionals have done in their EH Holden Batmobile.
Steve Shuttleworth and Paul Hartin, from Mini Tankers, suited-up as Batman and The Riddler to have fun, while raising thousands of dollars for charity. It was a far cry from their normal lives; supplying on-site diesel, pack lubricants and greasing equipment to construction sites, transport depots and primary industries.
The 2006 Brookvale to Bundy Bash, hosted by the Variety Club of NSW, raised over $2.1 million for hospitals and children with special medical needs. Competitors bashed, bounced and bribed their way across 4,700km of eastern Australia, in a looping journey that cut as far inland as Bourke and Cunnamulla, and as far north as Townsville.
Batman and The Riddler took-out the Best Theme Car Award; having dispensed joy and laughter to all the kids they met along the way. According to Steve, the only lowlights were some tough gravel sections, made all the more dusty by the open windows, after their air conditioning clapped-out.
Back at work, with the team having raised $15,500, Steve encouraged people to give generously and get involved in future, with only one caution: The 2 weeks’ catch-up, that’s the hard part.
