Tray sealing equipment from MPI

Supplier News

Packaging Automation, designer and manufacturer of tray sealing equipment, distributed in Australia by MPI , has been praised by a potato supplier for its ability and willingness to undertake trials and supply equipment on hire.

QV Foods was chosen by a UK outlet, Tesco, to supply potatoes and parsnips using new packaging solutions in the form of foil trays and board based boxes.

After rigorous trials the machine chosen was a semiautomatic, hand-turned rotary table tray sealer, the PA182, which took only three weeks from order to be up and running on the QV foods production line - the first heat sealing application for the company.

QV Foods business development manager, Kevin Woods, was impressed not only by the machine but by Packaging Automation's speed of response and level of commitment to the project, which meant that QV Foods was able to keep the project on schedule and impress its customer.

Kevin Woods commented: "Packaging Automation was very supportive throughout the development process. This has been our first venture into tray sealing and the results have been exceptional. The machine is easy to use, reliable and robust. It is currently sealing 400g foil trays at a rate of around 10 packs per minute.

Kevin Woods added: "The board based boxes are being packed at eight packs per minute and have an additional lid application process. Overall we've been very pleased by the level of support PA has given us and their contribution to the overall project has been invaluable."

Robustness and versatility, coupled with the simplicity of its film feed, are among the PA182's key features. The elimination of bug traps and ease of cleaning particularly when strict hygiene considerations need to be met, are also vital.

Accommodating trays up to 100mm in depth as standard, the PA182 can seal and trim film from a reel onto trays of numerous materials including CEPT, polypropylene, PVC, board and foil.

Although it was the first time his company has used Packaging Automation, the company's ethos and ability to supply on time has made a positive impact on Kevin Woods, and he would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

Packaging Automation sales engineer Jonathan Mildred said: "Time and time again customers are responding very favourably to our hire deals, especially in situations like this where new products or new pack formats are required.

“This facility has also proved extremely popular with smaller companies or those with seasonal lines who do not want to, or are unable to commit to outright purchase."
