Being able to hire reliable and efficient tray sealing equipment quickly, combined with the proactive support of Packaging Automation UK, has helped a north east England based food firm fulfil an urgent contract which could give it the potential to dramatically expand.
The Redemption Food Company has a strong foothold in the demanding airline food service market and could increase its presence there by a potential 50% due to its partnership with Packaging Automation. Packaging Automation's equipment is distributed in Australia by MPI .
Central to that development is the supply of a PA182 semiautomatic rotary table tray sealing machine which is being used to seal pots of Redemption Foods' in-flight Potato and Double Gloucester Cheese, and Carrot and Apple soups for the firm's significant contract with Virgin Atlantic.
And now the soups and sauces manufacturer has also developed new in-flight lines, which are currently being trialled by other major airlines, meaning Redemption Foods' throughput could be increased from 7,000 units a day to 10,000.
Redemption Foods' production and technical director, Mark Crow, commented: "We got Virgin Atlantic's approval to produce soups for first class passengers on their trans-Atlantic flights to the USA at very short notice and without PA's response, we would not have fulfilled expectations. Supplying us with the Mark 3 PA182 sealer and tooling in just two weeks, when it would normally take six weeks, was absolutely tremendous and crucial for us."
The semiautomatic, rotary PA182 heat sealer is known as the workhorse of Packaging Automation's hire fleet, sealing more than 100 million ready meals of every description a week.
The tray sealer has benefited from a major redesign, improving operation, efficiency, maintenance and hygiene. A simple film feed path enables fast, tool-less film reel changes and heat sealing tools changes in two minutes by unskilled operators. A robust structural and component design means greater reliability and reduced downtime.
Redemption Foods' Mark Crow added: "Packaging Automation are easy to deal with and their attitude, approach and supportiveness is absolutely exceptional. Whereas most companies will sell a machine, PA took an interest in the complete job and the whole line to ensure their equipment played the fullest part in maximising our potential and was trouble-free."
